In recent years, The Residency has built a reputation for being among the nation's finest hip-hop music institutions. To continue strengthening our community, we believe in supporting our participants with increased access to higher education opportunities. The goal of our yearly scholarship fund is to create a pipeline to higher education for our alumni, and to break down the barriers that deny them access to becoming the leaders of tomorrow.
You must be a Residency alumnus to apply. Applicants can apply for more than one scholarship offering, and selections will be made based on the pool of qualified applicants as determined by our review committee. Stay tuned for more offerings and opportunities!

Past Offerings
The Starving Artist Award
Amount $1,000
The Starving Artist Award is designed to support Residency alumni who are currently pursuing a certificate/degree in the arts. We are seeking Residency alumni who are working toward a degree in the arts or creative industries and who need additional funding to help cover related expenses. Recognizing the many challenges and barriers that stand in the way of pursuing college for many students, this award provides flexible funding for students to use as needed to support their college or certificate experience. The committee will prioritize students who are pursuing degrees in the arts and who have demonstrated how this support could help them navigate obstacles in the way of their educational goals.
Additional Info: Applicants must be at least a part-time student attending or planning to enroll in an accredited certificate/degree program or 2 - 4 year college institution. No geographic restrictions. This award will be paid either directly to the institution that the student is enrolled in, or directly to the student (in which case taxes will apply), and can be used to support related educational expenses, including food, rent, tuition, and supplies. Applicants will need to submit copies of academic transcripts as part of the application process.
The Survivor Scholarship
Amount $2,250
This Survivor Scholarship is designed to support Residency alumni who have survived sexual abuse, recognizing the extra barriers and obstacles these students have had to overcome, and celebrating their strength, resilience, and courage to move forward in their pursuit of a college education.
We want to honor the time, energy, and emotional labor involved in submitting an application for survivors of abuse, and will offer small self-care packages to individuals who meet the eligibility criteria and submit an application for the Survivor Scholarship. We will mail packages to the address input in the application.
About the Survivor Scholarship
The Residency hopes that this scholarship empowers and supports survivors with resources to pursue their educational aspirations. While Hip-Hop has sadly been weaponized by some as a tool in promoting rape culture, sexism, and misogyny, we know that Hip-Hop at its core is about love, empowerment, connection, and healing through the arts. The Survivor Scholarship was founded in the spirit of these core values and with the goal of supporting our alumni with the resources they need to thrive.
