In 2018, The Residency continued to build on its commitment to youth empowerment through music in two tracks: production and vocal. For a month in the summer, 45 youth did daily workshops at MoPOP with five teaching artists. The final week was dedicated to learning more about the music industry and creative careers that support it. For the second year in a row, all students in the program were invited to join Macklemore for a once in a lifetime experience with a trip to LA. Students in this year’s cohort also had the opportunity to apply for full scholarships to Shoreline Community College’s renown music engineering and education program. Finally, students will have the opportunity to continue developing their craft at an overnight writer’s camp and during studio sessions with partners like Totem Star.
